The 2 days forum (20th-21st November 2017) at Speke resort Munyonyo was officiated by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda who in his opening remarks informed the visiting delegates that they’re here for business not charity. He added that business is about the following

  • A producer of goods and services
  • A consumer for the good and services produced

With the 2 in place and linked by infrastructure, the cost of doing business is lowered and this enables companies to make profits and pay tax

The President used this opportunity to showcase over 50 Indian investors doing business in the various sectors of agro processing, manufacturing and ICT innovations in Uganda. This was to enable the visiting delegations gain confidence and choose Uganda for investment

Mrs. Jolly K. Kaguhangire, the UIA Executive Director welcomed the delegates and marketed Uganda as the

most suitable investment destination since it is land linked to the different East African countries with a market population of 120 million people and a member of COMESA with a population of 500 million people.

The Commerce Secretary of India Mrs,Rita Teaotia said that India and East Africa have so many commonalities with the major one being that both are agricultural regions. She added that the reform and transform mantra has permeated the economic space and opened doors for new collaborations and business partnerships across the spectrum.

Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda, the Prime Minister of Uganda in his closing remarks pledged Uganda’s political and economic support towards the achievement of one common goal of industrializing Uganda. The relationship between India and Uganda has been growing and a lot has been achieved in the past years without the current infrastructure and modernity

Uganda has today. He called upon the visiting delegates to see Uganda as the gateway to the East Africa market.
